Save your Skin from Winter
Winter-proof your skin in time this year with these preventative tips and must-have products to keep your complexion nourished and healthy looking during the colder months.
You know winter is coming when you see the dreaded signs of dehydration and tightness creeping up and rearing their ugly heads. For me, it happened last week when I unexpectedly woke up with cracked, dry and rough lips. Hello winter!
Unfortunately for me, my newfound scaliness made my already underwhelming pout far less impressive (if that's possible) and took about a week of layering on lip balms and gentle exfoliation to re-hydrate those wizened lips and make the lizard scales take a hike.
Colder weather, drier air, excessive home heating and regular drizzly downpours can all affect the condition of both our hair and skin. As I write this, I notice how much drier the skin on my hands now looks, a definite symptom of being out and about outdoors more than usual this week. Not attractive.
Make sure your skin doesn't follow the route to cracked with our top ways to winter-proof your skin.
Use a good quality SPF and moisturiser even in winter. Those UV rays and free radicals don't give a toss whether it's warm summer sun or bright winter light. Either way, it's going to cause damage. After your morning cleanse, apply a nourishing moisturiser like Image's Prevention +.
The Eye Cream
The eyes tell a thousand stories so don't let yours say 'I'm tired and dehydrated' today. Get going with a good eye cream to banish the signs of dryness and plump up the skin. We love Liz Earle's SuperSkin eye cream. Apply a small amount around the eye and tap gently with your fingers around your eye sockets to revitalise.
The Hand Cream
The hands are always a dead giveaway when it comes to the signs of ageing and dehydration. Make sure you stash a hand cream in your bag so you can slap on a bit while on the move to keep your hands in tip top condition. You'll thank us. We love Skinician's Luxe Hand Lotion for its non-greasy formula and it gets bonus points for being Irish.
The Lip Balm
Now we all love a chic matte lip but if your kisser is dry and flaky, it'll ruin the effect of that super stylish matte pout. Keep your lips nourished with a layer of must-have lip balm. Always dab on a bit for those colder days to minimise the effect of the biting Irish wind.
