Top Vegan Beauty Buys you Need Right Now
These days, vegan beauty is taking the glamour world by storm with more and more people choosing cruelty-free options when picking up a new lipstick or shopping for a sumptuous body lotion. For some, veganism is a way of life, for others swapping some of their everyday products for vegan alternatives is a way of making their pampering sesh more sustainable. Go you.
So you've made the commitment and cut the cruelty from your life or at least you're trying to reduce it. Long gone are the creamy lattes on the commute to work or that tempting chicken curry of a Friday night. You're no longer snapping and filtering weekend brunches of perfectly poached eggs. Lucky for you, vegan food is bright, punchy and oh-so-instagrammable so you'll be OK (unless you're the type of vegan who lives on frozen hash browns, chips and soy ice cream. No judgement).
After all the agonising over cheese and the restraint, I bet some of us have never even considered what's in your beauty products because I certainly never did. There are plenty of beauty and haircare brands out there proud of being against animal testing and that's great. Plenty of brands may not be tested on animals but might still be using animal derived ingredients, something I hadn't considered when popping into Boots for something or adding my favourite shampoo and conditioner to my online basket. How much time do we spend analysing the complicated list of ingredients printed on the back of the bottle? Not much.
If you're interested in a more sustainable way of pampering yourself, make sure you look out for ingredients like glycerine (found in shampoo and can be made from animal fat), carmine (also known as natural red 4, cochineal or crimson lake) and is made from crushed insects. I found that one in my favourite red lipstick. Guanine is used to add that beautiful shimmer to lots of different makeup and is actually derived from crushed fish scales to create that sparkle. Lanolin and stearic acid are also ones to add to your hit list.
If you're searching for a kinder way to slay, check out these top beauty products with a side of fabulous.
