Keeping your Blonde Fresh and Fabulous

Hair trends are forever changing and it seems like every week the internet tells us there's a new 'amazing colour trend' that all the celebs are going crazy for and breaking down the doors of their chic LA salons. We've had ombré, balayage, rose gold hair, platinum and now we're on to cream soda hair (yes, it's a thing). This latest take on blonde is apparently loved by supermodel Gigi Hadid and fellow Victoria Secret model Elsa Hosk.

A softer and more natural shade that blurs the lines between blonde and brunette tones, this new creamy hue adds a glow around the face. I can just imagine my hairdresser's expression if I rocked in next month, roots at the ready declaring I want cream soda hair. Things were confusing enough when I wanted a Brigitte Bardot inspired fringe so for simplicity's sake, I'm sticking to my ash highlights thanks.

The golden tones and honey blondes of the 2000s have fallen out of favour recently with more faux and natural blondes alike opting for cooler shades of ice and platinum but when did gold become so reviled? Choosing ashy blondes, whiter hues and hints of grey makes your blonde feel more contemporary and cutting edge than the caramel hues of our teenage years and adds that extra touch of sophistication. If like me, you're a faux blonde, you'll be very familiar with our old nemesis, brassiness.

A common problem with hair that has been lifted from its naturally dark shade to one that's much lighter, brassy tones are a highlighter's worst enemy but with a little help from some tried and tested products, you can eliminate brass and banish yellow. Ask any established blonde committed to the bleach and she'll tell you that she's obsessed with purple or silver shampoo. Intensely coloured in deep shades of indigo or navy, this product promises to brighten your hair and darken your bathroom tiles.

To keep your colour looking oh-so-fresh and to stretch those pricey salon visits a bit further, use once a week for clean blonde tones with no yellow. For you platinum beauties out there with silver desires, massage into dry hair and leave on for a few minutes before rinsing to reveal subtle silver. Make sure you nourish your hair in between silver shampoo applications with something that's going to replenish and moisturise bleached hair. Your tresses will thank you.
