VLOG: We Tried a High-Tech Skin Scanner and this Happened

Leanne Gannon

We think you’ll all agree, if there’s one thing that can help you in the battle against ageing (apart from Botox, that is) it’s good skincare. Most of us plough our way through the skincare aisle in Boots without a clue of what we really need. Or what works. HOW DO YOU KNOW?

That’s why, when we were invited to try out a custom skin analysis using LED technology with SkinCeuticals at Galgorm Resort and Spa we jumped at the chance. Damage, pigmentation and dehydration are not always visible to the naked eye and what we saw during the analysis was SHOCKING to say the least. After our time in the SkinCeuticals Skin Scanner – we’re stocking up on SPF stat!

Although your skin may look clear and OK at first glance, no one really knows what’s going on underneath and how years of sun exposure, environmental city pollution and baby wipes have wreaked their havoc. It’s time to put down the wipes and go for the double cleanse.

When we placed our faces in the skin scanner we were greeted with the ugly truth. Dark patches around the eyes signalled dehydration in the skin. Orange patches showed up where oil glands and pores had become congested and clogged. Getting up close and personal with the damage to your skin is eye-opening to say the least. With this high-tech tool we’re able to clearly see skin problems so we can address, correct and prevent further issues down the line. After the analysis, we were given a personalised recommendation and a home skincare routine to improve hydration levels and blocked pores.

What skin looks like under the scanner

The SkinCeuticals team talked through the makeup of our skin, its naturally acidic nature and the importance of antioxidants to prevent and reduce free radical damage. Some of the most important takeaways from the analysis were;

·       Double cleansing. Your first cleanse takes off the top layer of makeup and grime but the all-important second cleanse works deeper to properly remove embedded dirt. Ick.

·       Your skin is actually ACIDIC. Mind blown. Products that are acidic are better for your skin which is why anti-oxidants are so important. Cleansers tend to be alkaline, as is water due to the addition of fluoride and other compounds so using a slightly acidic toner will help return your skin to its natural pH. Look for products with Lactic or Glycolic acid.

·       Hyaluronic Acid is your best friend when it comes to hydration. Hyaluronic Acid molecules can hold up to 1,000 times their weight in water so a serum with this vital ingredient is superb for hydrating your skin. A little goes a long way.

·       Wear SPF every day. Even on cloudy days or when you’re not in the sun and go for broad spectrum protection of at LEAST Factor 25 to prevent skin damage from UVA and UVB rays.
